KG Vollrads Riesling
Schloss Vollrads

One of the greatest locations for the production of Riesling is the miracle mile from Schloss Vollrads to Schloss Johannisberg. On this land the first Riesling vineyards were planted and the first eiswein was made. The fabled racy elegance of Schloss Vollrads traces its wine making tradition to the tenth century. The large private estate has been under the able direction of Dr. Hepp since 1997, and this wine from Schloss Vollrads and purchased grapes is as good as anything he produces in the dryer style. The appellation is Rheingau as it comes from more than one district. The grapes are grown primarily in gravel, sand and slate, rich in minerals with fertile layers of loess. 1,500 cases were made under this label.

Excerpt from Harvey Steiman’s Wine Spectator Blog; “Wine Matching with Aloha” Posted December 9, 2008; referencing Chef Mavro in Honolulu, Hawaii, Winner of prestigious AAA Five Diamond rating & Gayot Top 40 Restaurants in America
“Mavro's Crispy Fillet of Flounder, for example, not only uses the sweet fish raised on the Big Island in pure cold seawater pumped from 3,000 feet down, but pairs the garnish of broccolini with braised green papaya, grown in the Islands, of course. The Vollrads 2004 Riesling just floated right over all the flavors without losing any of its fruit, the slight sweetness playing well against the tart balance in the food."
